Recipe Makeovers



Today we recreated a burrito that we enjoy from one of our favorite breakfast spots. Let’s get rid of the myth that you can’t eat certain foods if you live a healthy lifestyle. That’s not true. There will be times that you may have to forgo certain food items if you’re trying to meet a weight loss goal but you don’t have to give it up completely. Living a healthy lifestyle is not about depriving yourself or giving up food groups its about balance. Fortunately, you can always modify any recipe to make it fit into your healthy lifestyle.


Below are a few tips to get your recipes to “RISE” to their nutritional potential:


R - Reduce the number of ingredients that are not healthy. (Sugar, oil, cheese, etc.)

I - Incorporate nutrient-rich ingredients (veggies, whole grain, etc)

S- Substitute healthier version ingredients. (Low fat, low sodium, salt-free, etc)

E - Eliminate a less healthy ingredient, if possible.

Lets continue to make healthier choices and spread the word that a health lifestyle is not about depriving yourself.
