What are you eating?

Do you find yourself working out consistently but never reaching your fitness goals? Do you "eat clean" but never see alot of physical changes? If so, I’d be willing to bet that it’s your nutrition. Nutrition plays a major role in your health and fitness journey. You've heard the saying ”You can’t out train a bad diet.” It's very true! We tried for years to exercise and eat whatever we wanted but it does not work that way. It's not healthy and its counterproductive to exercise and have poor nutrition habits.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be an expert to understand nutrition basics. You should know your daily caloric intake to be able to reach your goals. There are tons of smartphone apps available to help you track your diet and exercise. The app that we use is MyFitnessPal. MyFitnessPal is a free app that allows you to create an account and select a goal (lose, gain, or maintain weight). Once you’ve created your profile, mfp will calculate your calorie goal and nutrients needed to reach the goal you selected. Logging for food may sound like a daunting task but once you get into a habit it’s not that bad. You can't change what you won't confront. Most people don't realize how much they are eating or not eating until they begin this process.

MyFitnessPal is also a way to stay accountable. If you record everything thing you put into your mouth, you’ll be able to see the areas that need improvements. I.e.; Are you skipping breakfast, are you eating enough, are you eating too much, are you reaching your macronutrient goals). Whatever the goal, nutrition is crucial. Tracking your food intake for a week or so will help you pinpoint where the issues lie. Familiarize yourself with the app and you’ll see it’s a great tool with lots of helpful information. Try it!
